Hagia Sofia was completed by order of Justinian in the year 537 and was known as The Great Chruch due to its size compared with other Christian chruches. Then in 1453, Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror converted the cathedral into his imperial mosque.
Whether seen as a religious symbol or a metaphor for the enduring and magnificent nature of life itself Hagia Sofia does not, in day light or by moonlight, fail to impress.
